Remove paneling, bees behind paneling. Remove beehive, leave with beehive, yeah, no. Wish it were that simple. Sheetrock behind paneling, space with nice size recess above top plate. Bees build in wall and recess. Recess was the pain in the butt part of this job. It got a little sloppy at times. Did manage to get lots of nice brood comb and bees, if I got the queen, well that's a bonus. Some jobs you expect that you won't get the queen, this one was one of 'em. Had two comb sections with queen cells, so hopefully, that will go well, or maybe I'll just do a combine with a swarm. Now you have been reading about those times when some of us were cutting out hives that have swarmed they are mean? The swarms are tame, the left behind are mean.

darn talk about a mess. I hope what I am getting into tomorrow is not quite that much of a mess. BUt I do worry about attic space and what is going on in that soffet.

Angi, best advice I could give you: Don't worry about the what ifs, there are lots of variables when performing removals, but even the toughest ones have their share of excellent moments. Its the inner thrill of doing any removal, that keeps the adrenalin pumping. You will have challenges, but that is the nature of the beast. Where there is a will, there is a way. Now sometimes, there are construction issues that inhibit your ability to go into a particular area, especially structural issues, this is where your husband would come in real handy. My worst cut out was a church. Not the cut out itself but the bees were mean. They were swarming, or trying to, and I think they didn't want to be bothered
Then there is another where someone was talking about doing a removal after they had swarmed and they were mean. So these might be mean. |
