This question is a bit on the late side since I just heard about it Sunday. My NASCAR viewing this season has been on the slim side do to family functions .

Was the penalty to Dale Jr. to much or not enough?
My option is that it wasn't enough. I don't think the money means much to he who makes that amount per day I believe. I think the 25 points ment more to him than all the dollars they fined him. I think the point fine should have been more.
These drivers are like all the other sports figures, heros to kids/young persons and should set a better example.
  Although I at times use those types of words I try very hard not to, not just because the grand children or my wife would hear them but they are not really necessary at any time when explaining any thing.
    I am always amazed at the flagrant use of the MF or F words when at a shopping mall/center & even was shocked  to hear a small child I guessed to be about 10 say to an adult come on CS   buy me the candy bar recently.

I thought I had just stepped into a shop/factory where the employees seem to use such words with no qualms.

I missed the Dale Interview, but heard the talk about during this weeks race. Points is the onlything that will catch the attention of the racers, but monitary fines are also necessary because of the broad scope of the FCC and its war agains profane language and obscene content.

I believe now that it is NOT a war against anything EXCEPT Howard Stern after seeing live broadcasts getting away with bad language over and over again. A good example is when Vet Stadium in Philadelphia went down, the local channel 10 broadcast played the implosion and some idiot kep yelling F this and F that in the background and no attempt to block or delay this live event, nor any appology was given by the station: later the People For Free Speech Colalition (who track all fines paid to the FCC) said no fines were imposed to this station.

Meanwhile, although Howard Stern PUSHES THE LIMITS of what is and is not allowed, he plays by the rules and STILL is being driven to Satalite pay service, even though no defined abuses have been declared by the FCC against him.

Colin Powell's son is the head of the FCC and he has a hard-on against Stern for Stern's position again George W. Bush. My great fear here is that imposing ANYONE'S VALUES on FREE SPEECH limits people's rights: but I do it here, just try cursing in this forum and see what words come up in place of your curse words - I do that because (although I believe you have the right to say anything you wish) you do not have the right to insult the members of this forum or their family.

But if you don't like Howard Stern or any of the hundreds of imatators, then just turn them off - don't impose your beliefs or morals on other people, not when you have the right to express your opinions in a civilized manor in a forum where debate is not only allowed but welcomed.

So, hit Dale's sponsors in the pocketbook and smack him in the points standing - before you know it, your grandmother can read the excerps from the Nascar programs as goodnight stories to your grandchildren.

Your post about free speach was a good point Jonh.
But you didn't say if you thought the NASCAR fine to D.E. was right.
Free speach to express your thoughts are one thing, using what many term cuss words, in every other word of a sentance isn't needed.
I feel embarassed every time I am walking in the Mall or anywhere for that matter with Kare and my grandkids and hear the usage of the F & MF word like or the same as this and that. Totally uncalled for and it to me is about time for people to get their mouth washed out with soap as a figure of speach.
