Beekeeping in the movie "Ever After"

Yesterday I walked through the den while a movie, Ever After (a feminist take on the Cinderella story) was on HBO.  Drew Barrymore and someone else were robbing the bees at the manor (takes place in medieval times).  They had on veils and were opening the tops of skeps.  The bee buzzing was authentic and there seemed to be real bees in the scene - lots of skeps - 30 or so. 

They reached in to the skep from the top and took out large chunks of honey and laid them on a plate.  They then shut the skep's top and removed their veils and walked toward the house carrying the plate of honey (about 2 frames worth of chunks) uncovered.  I was surprised that there were no bees following them with the honey in the open like that.

OK, OK, I know it was a movie but the scene appeared to have been filmed in a real beeyard......how could they have carried open honey like that with no bees in the scene?

Also it was probably stunt people doing the live bee scenes and then the star actors were added at a later time.

Linda, interesting that you observed no bees following along.  Only a beekeeper would notice that, hee, hee    Most people wouldn't even think about it.  Yea!!!!  Sounds like an interesting movie.  Have a wonderful and great day, lovin' this life we live.  Cindi

Gee, I hate being disillusioned.  I was so impressed that Drew Barrymore was willing to don a bee veil and be among the bee skeps.....

It's funny how often I notice bees now than I did before.  I ordered from Amazon a book called Rosie's Walk because it's about a chicken who takes a walk and in doing so looks just like my grandson when he sets out on a walk.  I only remembered about the book that catastrophe followed Rosie on her walk but that she was unaffected.  Turns out the final catastrophe is that the fox runs under the beehives (!) upsetting them and then last scene is the fox running away from Rosie and her walk being chased by angry bees....
