Why is it that managed hives have 40-60,000 bees, most natural hives are smaller than managed hives, but all of the natural hives in the news have between 100,000 and 1,000,000 bees?

Kinda like what they wanted to do with the 2000 census and estimate.  Works well with populations doesn't it!


But if the hives have enough room they can get quite large.  Instead of between inner and outer walls, they may set up in a room of an abandoned building...
