Square Melons !!!!

A round watermelon can take up a lot of room in a refrigerator and the
usually round fruit often sits awkwardly on refrigerator shelves. 
Smart Japanese Farmers have forced their watermelons to grow into a square
shape by inserting the melons into square, tempered glass cases while the
fruit is still growing on the vine.

uh, sorry to hit ya, but it's rather old info, at least 5 years. but...i have never seen a rectangular one, probably coz we don't improt them from japan
and i don't believe it has to do with space in the fridge, it's more about the transport space, to get as many as they can on the truck
