Just finished watching a movie about the late Dale Earnhardt. Seemed like he really was a hero of the sport of Nascar, and a fine human being. I never have been to any kind of car race and have trouble watching racing on tv, seems so repetitive, but I imagine live, it must be pretty incredible. Anyway, feeling sad and sappy right now. Dale had a lot of fans.

I too don't care for NASCAR, but I understand that Mr. Earnhardt was a stand up guy.

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

I never said I don't care for Nascar, its just watching the cars go round and round and round on the tv that I have trouble with. In person I can imagine it has to be exciting, cars going 190 miles an hr! I'm sure the beemaster can shed some light on this. Beemaster?

He was, very much so.  He obtained something that no other athlete has ever been able to.  He was, all at the same time, the past, present and the future of his sport.  Starting in the 70's, he raced (and beat) the legends of the sport.  Through the 80's & 90's, he tallied 7 NASCAR championships.  When he died in 2001, he was in third place at the Daytona 500..... and still very much a part of NASCAR's future.

I saw the show too, made me really miss that guy.

I'm not Beemaster, but I can't stand Nascar at all, for the very reasons you said - roundy-round doesn't do anything for me.  Give me top fuel dragsters and a quarter mile strip  evil

I never mentioned anything about what anyone else thinks of it.  I spoke only for myself.  I personally think it's a boring sport.  But I never heard anything remotely negative about Dale Earnhardt.  I went to a race one time.  The start of the race was extremely exciting.  25 laps later I couldn't wait to leave...lol
